1985 United States Mint Uncirculated Coin Set
This set contains 12 coins
Mintage: 1,710,571
Each set contained a total of ten different coins, consisting of examples of the half dollar, quarter, dime, nickel, and cent struck at Philadelphia and Denver. Completing the set were two mint tokens struck in copper plated bronze. These tokens contained the letter “P” and “D” to represent each mint facility.
The 1985 Mint Set remains one of the lowest premium and most commonly available mint sets within the series. The sets can be found, often in quantity, at a cost of well below the original issue price of $7.00 per set. Earlier Mint Sets have the appeal of dollar coins, some of the later sets have lower production runs. This year’s set is caught in between with no significant distinction.
Packaging for the set contained a different design than the prior year. From 1984, the annual offering would feature a differently designed outer envelope. The 1985 Mint Set envelope featured a wood grain background with images of each of the five denominations. Printing indicated “1985 Uncirculated Coin Set”, “D and P Mint Marks”, “United States Mint”.
